Ski Association of Hong Kong, China Chairman Mr. Edmond Yue made the Opening Speech at the Forum of Winter Sports Development in Zhangjiakou | 12-2017 | 2017.12.23 Mr. Edmond Yue was invited to make the Opening Speech at the Forum of Winter Sports Development in Zhangjiakou among Ski Clubs and Ski Teams representatives from all over China. It was followed by speeches from other spokespersons and exchanges from representatives. The Forum concluded successfully in 3 hours’ time. Chairman of Zhangjiakou Ski Association Mr. Liu also indicated that both Ski Association of Hong Kong and Zhangjiakou will work very closely for the Development of Winter sports in China.

Hong Kong Ski Team member competed in 2017 Whistler Cup in Canada | 05-2017 | 2017.5.16 Arabella NG, one of our new member of the Hong Kong Ski Team participated the Whistler Cup Women's events this April in Vancouver, Canada. Arabella didn't do too well on April 13th in the Super-G, only ranked 53 out of 77 that completed the event. On April 14th, Arabella finished #29 out of 66 that completed the U16 Giant Slalom GS. On April 15th, Arabella did much better and finished #21 out of 47 that completed the U16 Ladies Slalom. Another team member Jerome Wong didn't show up for this year's Whistler Cup because of a broken he finger when he attended an Italian event two weeks before this one. According to her father Timothy, Arabella did so much better in March at the Ronnie Berlack U16 Eastern Championship Grand Prix, an USSA event where she came in third out of 53 ladies athletes who completed this Slalom event. She promised that she will continue to work hard and train hard for the 2017/18 season and hopefully with some good results for the Hong Kong Ski Team. | |
SA-HK @SF&OC Annual Dinner | 03-2017 | 2017.03.21 Members and guests of the Ski Association of Hong Kong, China (SA-HK) among all National Sport Associations (NSA) joined the Annual Dinner of the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC). It's an annual event which included among others the Samsung 2016 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards Presentations and an opening speech delivered by the Chief Executive of the HKSAR The Honourable C. Y. SA-HK Visited Harbin Sport University | 03-2017 | 2017.03.19 Ski Association of Hong Kong, China (SA-HK) visited Harbin Sport University on March 16-19 after the Beidahu Club Med trip. The purpose is to set up a training base in Harbin for the Hong Kong Ski Team. Harbin Sport University is the only sport university in the world that operate its own ski facility and the name of their ski facility is called ''Champion Ski Course'' (冠軍滑雪場) since it has already produced a couple of world champions. Even though it is not a five stars facility, it has everything a training facility needs such as hotel, good slopes for alpine skiing, half pipe skiing and mogul skiing as well as cross country skiing. Most importantly it provides the top teaching resources one could find from the top ranked sport university in mainland China. Jerome Wong, a member of the Hong Kong Ski Team received professional ski training during his 4 days visit in Harbin and it gave him a good preparation for his competitions in Italy and Canada in the coming weeks. Samson Siu, SA-HK Secretary General indicated that more training program for members of the Hong Kong Ski Team will be set up here in Harbin in the coming winter season. Hong Kong skiers who want to join the Hong Kong Ski Team must first take the general assessment offered during most of the SA-HK trips which could be found at www.sa-hk.com from time to time! | |
''Bring Children to the Snow'' at Beidahu Club Med in Jilin, China | 03-2017 | Ski Association of Hong Kong, China (SA-HK) visited the Beidahu Club Med on March 13-16, 2017. As far as skiers from Hong Kong are concerned, Beidahu Club Med is a very convenient ski resort which could be reached by 4 hours direct flight from Hong Kong followed by 2 hours bus ride. Once you've checked in Beidahu, everything is included such as ski lessons, meals, entertainment etc. Obviously parents especially could be very relaxed taking their children to Beidahu to enjoy the sport of skiing. Besides bringing children to the snow, SA-HK is trying to promote the sport of skiing in China towards 2022 Winter Olympic which will be held in Zhangjiakou near Beijing. There are 2 candidates taking the General Assessment during this trip to Beidahu. They are being trained together with one member of the HK Ski Team by the top coaches from ESF. Eventually both were successfully assessed as Silver Level skiers of SA-HK and they will be invited to join the Hong Kong Ski Team soon. The next ''Bring Children to the Snow'' event will be held in New Zealand in July this year. Associate members and their children are welcome to join. "Bring Children to the Snow" by Ski Association of Hong Kong | 01-2017 | The 1st event in 2017 by Ski Association of Hong Kong, China (SA-HK) was held on 5-8 January in Zhangjiakou, a few hours drive north-west of Beijing. Besides bringing children to the snow, SA-HK, according to Chairman Mr. Edmond Yue would try to promote the sport of skiing in China towards 2022 Winter Olympic which will also be held in Zhangjiakou. In 2 1/2 days of training and competition, children competed in the Downhill Slalom in three grades categories namely A/B, C and Junior. Besides individual winners, the overall champion went to Diocesan Boys' School and first runner-up to International College of Hong Kong. There were also 8 candidates being assessed of their ability to compete for the Hong Kong Ski Team. Eventually 3 were assessed as Silver Level by SA-HK and they will be invited to join the Hong Kong Ski Team soon. The next ''Bring Children to the Snow'' event will be held in Club Med's Beidahu ski resort in Jilin, China on 13-16 March, 2017. Associate members and their children are welcome to join. SA-HK's Chairman, Edmond Yue, used this Annual Dinner to celebrate this major leap in the development of the Ski Association in Hong Kong. Dinner was held at Gaylord Restaurant, one of the oldest and most famous Indian restaurants in Hong Kong. In addition, SA-HK used this opportunity to welcome the newest members of the Hong Kong Ski Team, as they had successfully completed the SA-HK general assessment, held earlier this year in Hokkaido, Japan. According to Edmond, the Inter-school program, set up by the SA-HK, will actively recruit more young athletes from schools and sports clubs to be trained to become future members of the Hong Kong Ski Team. They will, eventually, be able to represent Hong Kong in many international ski and snowboard competitions such as, the 2018 Winter Olympic Games held in Korea and, the 2022 Winter Olympic Games held in China. Decisions of the 50th International Ski Congress in Cancun (Mexico) 10th June 2016 - FIS Membership | Mexico | 06-2016 | The 50th International Ski Congress in Cancun, Mexico from 6th-10th June 2016 was attended by more than 900 participants from the global ski family including delegates, representatives of National Ski Associations, Organising Committees, the ski industry, FIS partners and the media, who took part in more than 100 official meetings. The Mexican Ski Association took great pride in hosting the most important biannual gathering of FIS with the President of the National Olympic Committee honouring the Congress with his presence along with other key persons from Mexican sport. The General Assembly - the FIS Congress - held on Friday 10th June 2016 in Cancun took the following important decisions regarding FIS Membership: The applications of the Ski Association of Hong Kong and the Mexican Ski Federation for full membership were approved. The Congress also approved the affiliation of six National Ski Associations who fulfill the criteria for membership from Afghanistan, Kosovo, Kingdom of Tonga, Uganda, Nigeria and Ecuador as Associate Members. Hosts for 2020/2021 FIS World Championships Elected | Mexico | 06-2016 | 2016.06.09 Cancun Mexico: Thursday 9th June 2016 the FIS Council has elected the Organisers of the 2021 FIS Freestyle & Snowboard, Nordic and Alpine events as well as for the 2020 FIS Ski Flying World Championships. The final presentations by the five candidates for the 2020/2021 FIS World Championships took place on Tuesday 7th June 2016 with the highly-anticipated decision announced at 19:00 in Cancun Mexico. Zhangjiakou/Genting Resort of China was unanimously elected as host of the FIS Freestyle Ski & Snowboard World Championships 2021. The resort will also host the 2022 Olympic Winter Games Freestyle and Snowboarding competitions, making the election very timely. “I can’t think of a more appropriate host for the 2021 Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding World Championships,” said FIS President Gian Franco Kasper. “Ideally, the World Championships will serve as the final test event for the Olympics, giving the Organisers the best possible experience to prepare for the Games. It is also one of the key developing regions for Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard, making it a perfect fit to develop and promote the sports strongly over the next five years.” |
Flag Presentation Ceremony of the HKSAR Delegation to the 13th National Winter Games | Hong Kong | 04-2016 | The Ski Association of Hong Kong, China (SA-HK) took part in the Flag Presentation Ceremony in Hong Kong with the presents of Mr. Edmond Yue (Chairman), Mr. Tony Yue (Vice President), Mr. David Wu (Oversea Director), Mr. Samson Siu (Secretary General) and Mr. Keith Noyes (Freestyle Downhill). Athletes representing Hong Kong by SA-HK are Alexandra Tacon in downhill skiing and Keith Noyes in freestyle downhill competitions. |
Ski Association of Hong Kong, China have joined this year's 13th National Winter Game in Xinjian. | 04-2016 | The Ski Association of Hong Kong, China (namely SA-HK) have one participating Alpine skier at this year's 13th National Winter Game held in Xinjian. But unfortunately Alexandra Tacon got injured during practice the day before the formal competition begin. She has been well trained and competed in the USA for sometimes and her FIS point should probably get her a medal in this National Winter Game. SA-HK have another participating freestyle skier named Keith Noyes and he eventually came in 11th in the freestyle downhill competition. In order to prepare for the upcoming Asia Winter Game in 2017 in Sapporo, Japan, Ski Association of Hong Kong, China will conduct several Assessment events in 2016 to select more ski representatives for our Hong Kong ski team. SA-HK will also setup an Inter-Schools Ski platform in 2016 to source more young skiers who will eventually join our Hong Kong ski team and hopefully get some good results in the near future. | |
General Assessment Successfully Held in Hokkaido by Ski Association of Hong Kong, China | 04-2016 | 2016.04.01 Hokkaido: The 1st General Assessment in 2016 by the Ski Association of Hong Kong, China (namely SA-HK) was held in Rusutsu Resort (http://en.rusutsu.co.jp/zh/) in Hokkaido, Japan on March 30-31. There were 3 participants in Snowboard and 5 participants in Downhill Ski. SA-HK employed the best coaching team in the area together with an official Technical Director to run this assessment. The first day and a half was all technical advices followed by the assessment test in the afternoon of the second day. Eventually 7 SA-HK members passed the assessment and most of them will be invited to join the 2016-17 Hong Kong Ski Team. According to Mr. Edmond Yue, Chairman of SA-HK, many more members of the Hong Kong Ski Team will be selected through similar General Assessment events in the near future. SA-HK hopes to recruit more young skiers to compete in international events and hopefully win some medals for Hong Kong. Some of them will be invited as ski ambassadors so that they could promote the sport of skiing in their respective schools and as a result more young and upcoming skiers will be able to pickup their spots at the Hong Kong Ski Team. The next General Assessment event will be held tentatively in August in New Zealand. Since it is summer holiday for many young skiers, SA-HK could assume many more participants will join this event. Any skier could become an Associate Member of SA-HK and then they will be informed of events associated with SA-HK. 49th International Ski Congress Barcelona (SPA) | Spain | 06-2014 | Ski Association of Hong Kong, China participated the bi-annual SKI CONGRESS 2014 in a 3-day event in Barcelona, Spain, on June 2, 2014. www.fis-ski.com The Congress successfully elected various sites for Alpine, Freestyle and other ski disciplines for the coming World Championships as well as appointed Sochi (RUS) as Organizers of the FIS Alpine Junior World Championship in 2016. The Asia Ski Federation also had a successful meeting in Spain; emphasizing the importance of the Asia ski movement as Korea was awarded host of the next Winter Olympic Games 2018, and that Asia will be becoming more influential in the world of skiing. Hong Kong will participate and support the Asia Ski movement by entering all possible FIS races in future, as well as the Winter Olympic Games in Korea in Year 2018. |

Ski Association of Hong Kong 2012 Ski Award Ceremony | Hong Kong | 07-2012 | Ski Association of Hong Kong was the title sponsor of the Ski Award 2012 which was held on July 16th at PLAY. PLAY is one of Hong Kong’s leading indoor and snowboard facilities. Camilla Weiner-Trapness, 15, represented Hong Kong at the Asian Junior Ski Championships in Korea (2011) and 12th China National Winter Games in Jilin, (2012). Camilla was the youngest competitor to enter both events. She won a bronze medal at the Asian Junior Ski Championships and ranked 6th out of 18 at the 12th China National Winter Games. Camilla Weiner-Trapness was awarded a certificate of merit and prize money from the Ski Association of Hong Kong Ski Award for her excellent performance at the 12th China National Winter Games and Asian Junior Ski Championships. |
Sport for Hope Foundation Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards | Hong Kong | 05-2012 | The Sports for Hope Foundation (SFHF) has committed to be the title sponsor of the Outstanding Junior Athlete Awards (OJAA) in 2012. A launch ceremony was held together on May 12th 2012 at the Hong Kong Sports Institute. The mission of Sports for Hope Foundation (SFHF) is to provide financial support to young highly talented athletes in Hong Kong and Greater China, who lack funding to further their passion in competing. Jilin, China | Jilin, China | 01-2012 | The 12th National Winter Games, held every four years, is the largest winter multi-sports event of the highest standard in the country. This year it was held in Jilin. The aim of these games to train sports talents and enhance the standard of winter sports in China. Camilla Weiner-Trapness is the first ever-alpine skier from HK to compete in the National Winter Games in the Slalom and Combined and Giant Slalom events. Camilla, who is only fifteen, had a great run on Combined and ranked No. 6 amongst the Chinese best athletes. So far, this is the best result at the National Winter Games for any Hong Kong athlete. On the first day of competitions Camilla’s result did not meet her expectations as she was unfamiliar with the arena and the pace of the game. The second day of competitions, Camilla produced much better result as she was acclimatized. In the first run of the Combined, Camilla finished with an astounding 55.17seconds for the Giant slalom. Camilla attacked the second run to finish with a 59.83 second, thus boosting her ranking from 12th to 6th place overall. Results from the Combined event gave the Hong Kong team much confidence for the result of the games. Camilla attained 5th place in the Giant Slalom competing against the best Chinese athletes. |

2009-10 FIS Freestyle World Cup Championship | Inawashiro, Japan | 03-2009 | 2009 FIS Freestyle World Championships took place at Listel Ski Fantasia Phone. It is a well-known ski resort to both athletes and fans as it has started to hold the World Cup Moguls since 1988. The size of the ski slope is not so big but its daffy course, the stage for Moguls and Dual Moguls, is famous as the one of the most difficult courses for its fall line as steep as 37 degree. The World Cup Aerials and the World Championships were also held here. A lot of Freestyle skiers visit here through a year since it has facilities for the Water Jumps. During March 2 - March 6, Mr. Edmond Yue, Chairman of SAHK, and Mr. David Wu, Overseas representative of SAHK, took our elite Hong Kong Skier Ms. Maria Zhang to participate in the 2009 Freestyle World Championship in Inawashiro (near Tokyo, Japan) in the discipline of Aerial Freestyle. The Freestyle Aerial event is a major FIS event holds every 2 years in different continents, and closely watched by many ski enthusiasts around the world. 2008-09 FIS Aerial Freestyle World Cup | Changchun, China | 01-2009 | Maria Zhang ranked 4th on her first World Cup For the first time in Hong Kong skiing history, SAHK introduced Ms. Maria Zhang not only to compete for HK in the 2009 World Cup Competition in Changchun, and to came in # 4th ( almost a medal position ) among the world's best Freestyle skiers was quite a accomplishment for HK skiing. The SAHK team with our only Freestyle skier arrived Changchun on Dec 15thfor the FIS Freestyle World Cup. There are a total of 12 nations, including newcomers to the aerial FIS Freestyle World Cup from Kazakhstan Ski Federation and Ski Association of Hong Kong have gathered in Changchun, Jilin Province (CHN) to test the renovated and floodlit aerial site at the newly-renamed resort of Adventure Mountain. Defending aerial champions Jacqui Cooper (AUS) and Steve Omischl (CAN) are back to defend their yellow leaders bibs also after the first two competitions of the season to be held on Friday and Saturday. The host nation, China, has also sent out their bests to compete on home snow. During the ladies' event (Feb. 19), initially light then heavy snow started to fall and the winds pick up which delayed the training and slowed down the running of the competition. The jury decided to reduce the degree of difficult (DD) of competition to ensure that competition could be safely completed. In her 1st World Cup, Hong Kong skier’s Maria Zhang, with the score of 88.2 on her first jump, was ranked 4th and very nearly on the podium. Furthermore, Mr. Edmond Yue (Chairman of SAHK) had a meeting with Mr. Hongguo Ren ,Vice President of Chinese Ski Association about developing skiing events and promotion for the skiing industries in the region , bringing in business opportunities and economic benefits for those well run organizing hosts for more future successful international ski events to China and Asia. 46th International Ski Congress | Cape Town, South Africa | 05-2008 | THE 46TH International Ski Congress has concluded successfully in Cape Town, South Africa, as official meetings began on May 28 and continued through ahead of the FIS General Assembly Meeting scheduled for May 30. There was more than 1,000 participants from all over the world to join this wonderful event. The 17 members of the FIS Council elected five World Championships sites for the 2013 season on May 29 — nordic, freestyle, snowboard, ski flying and the alpine event. The FIS awarded the 2013 Nordic skiing world championships to Val di Fiemme in Italy, the freestyle world championships to Voss, Norway and the snowboard world championships to Stoneham in Quebec. The Austrian resort of Schladming will host the world Alpine skiing championships in 2013. Furthermore, the FIS Congress also discussed FIS's plans for a multi-year international campaign entitled “Bring Children to Snow” designed to generate passion for snow activities among the younger generations. The marketing and activity campaign will be focused on enabling and enhancing the family experience in the snow and with snow activities, together with partners from various sectors including but not limited to the sports movement, ski industry, ski tourism, tourism associations, non-governmental and governmental organizations. |
China's 11th National Winter Games | Yabuli , China | 01-2008 | An extravagant show of amazing performances marks the official openning of the China's 11th National Winter Games in Qiqihar in northeastern Heilongjiang Province Friday evening. State Councilor Chen Zhili declared the opening of the 10-day games in the newly built speed skating stadium located in the western part of the city. The national winter sports gala is the last multi-sport games before China hosts the 29th Olympic Games in August of 2008. The stadium, a struture which occupies 19,143 square meters with a compacity of 1,500 spectators, is the arena where all the speed skating events of the games will be held. 1st International Sking Industries Cooperation Forum | Heilungjiang, China | 08-2007 | The first International Sking Industries Cooperation Forum, organized by China Ski Association and the People's Government of Heilongjiang. The event was held from August 29-September 1, 2007 in Harbin, Heilongjiang province, China, attracted foreign participants from over five countries and 250 Chinese delegates. The focus of the forum was on the development of Skiing in China, topics covered included: the promotion of regional ski resorts as a tourist attraction, the construction of Ski resorts within China, strategies to increase the profit of ski resorts as well as the future direction for Ski resorts developments in China. The panel comprised of ski experts within the Heilongjiang Province Government, officials from China Ski Association, officials from Ski Association of China, Hong Kong Ltd., officials from Chinese Taipei Ski association, venture capitalist, owners and managers of skiing resort in China, and professionals within the ski industry and tourism industry. |
"Heart to Heart" Interview Session | Hong Kong | 07-2007 | The first Heart to Heart Interview Session, organized by the Ski Association of Hong Kong, China Ltd, on Nov. 14, 2007 at the Royal Park Pacific Hotel, attracted both local and foreign participants. The focus of the forum was on the two China's Freestyle Skiing Medalists: Li Ni Na and Han Xiao Peng. Together they talked about insights into skiing, their experiences and how to overcome crisis in competitions. Furthermore, Mr. Wang Yi Tao, Chairman of the China Ski Association talked about the development of Skiing in China, topics covered included: updates on the ski development in China and the recent development of training for Freestyle skiing in China. Honorable guest includes, Mr. Timothy Fok, President of Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China, officials from China Ski Association, officials from Leisure and Cultural Services Department, officials from Xiu Hua News Agency, and the media. |
The 16th Asian Children Alpine Ski Championships | YongPing, Korea | 03-2007 | The 16th Asian Alpine Ski Championships (Children) took place this year in 2007 at Yongpyong Reosrt, Gangwon Province, Korea and were very successful in reaching their achievements. The 16th Asian Alpine Ski Championships (Children) consists of 2 events: Two of our local Hong Kong Skiers, Nicholas and Xander Glavatsky-Yeadon at the 16th Asian Alpine Ski Championships (Children) participated in this event and tried their best against other top level junior skiers. Nicholas and Xander Glavatsky-Yeadon start skiing at a very young age. They have both demonstrated good sportsmanship and their technical skills during the competition. All in all about 30 sportsmen, 20 coaches and fans from about 13 countries have participated in this wonderful event. All the participants can take home this wonderful experience and keep them in good memory. The most successful countries of this year's Ski Championships have been Korea, Japan and Iran. |
45th International Ski Federation Congress | Algrave, Portgual | 05-2006 | More than 950 participants representing 65 National Member Associations, including 64 Full Voting Members, participated in the 45th International Ski Congress at Vilamoura/Algarve, Portugal, from 21st to 27th May, 2006. The Ski Association of Hong Kong (SAHK) is proud to be among the participants at this congress. The Asian Ski Federation (ASF) also held its General Assembly during the same time. The week in Portugal included attending various FIS Committee meetings held during the Congress week, and the FIS Congress’s General Assembly. The Hong Kong Delegation met up with the Japanese Delegation to discuss their experiences on holding major Skiing events in Japan. We also took this opportunity to touch base with our Chinese counterparts and further our conversation regarding the future of Skiing in Hong Kong. |
The 14th Asian Children Alpine Ski Championships | Beidahu, China | 02-2005 | The 14th Asian Children Alpine Ski Championships was held from Feb 17th to 20th, 2007 at the Beidaihu Ski Resort, Jilin, China. It has the first professional ski slopes in China, meeting international standards, moreover, it has been chosen as the site for the Asian Winter Games to be held in 2007. This year was the first time a competitor from Hong Kong, Eric Fung, had qualified for the championships. His efforts and continued perseverance throughout the competitions is to be commended. The competition was tough, drawing competitors from seventeen different countries. |
44th International Ski Federation Congress | Miami USA | 06-2004 | The 44th International Ski Congress (ISC), organized by the Federation of International Ski (FIS) was held from the 30th of May to 5th of June, 2004 in Miami, Florida, USA. The Asian Ski Federation (ASF) also held its General Assembly during the same time. This was the first time Hong Kong was represented at the FIS and ASF General Assembly’s. This was a historical moment for Hong Kong as we were officially accepted as an Associate Member by the FIS and as a Full Member by the Asian Ski Federation. Upon arriving at the congress, Hong Kong’s delegation was truly honored to have met up personally with Chairman of the Federation of International Ski, Mr. Gian Franco Kasper as well as Chairman of the Asian Ski Federation, Dr. Sung Won Lee. During our three days of conferences in Miami, the Hong Kong delegation participated in the FIS and ASF General Assembly’s. To have met so many individuals with such passion for the sport of Skiing was great, and allowed our delegation to become more motivated to promote the sport of Skiing in Hong Kong. Moreover, the Hong Kong delegation attended workshops on recent developments on anti-doping issues and ways to help children to develop into professional Skiers. These workshops provided a good avenue for discussion among the different delegations and a lot of sharing of ideas to promote the sport of Skiing. |
Visiting Chinese Ski Association | Beijing, China | 05-2004 | After the Hong Kong delegation returned from the FIS congress in the United States, they planned a trip to Beijing, to meet with the people from the China Ski Association (CSA). The CSA having been founded in 1981, have a wealth of knowledge and experience regarding the promotion of the sport of Skiing. The objective of the Hong Kong delegation’s visit to Beijing was to learn from their counterparts. The meeting was very productive, as the CSA provided the Hong Kong delegation with much guidance on planning and development for our Ski program. |
