46th International Ski Congress

THE 46TH International Ski Congress has concluded successfully in Cape Town, South Africa, as official meetings began on May 28 and continued through ahead of the FIS General Assembly Meeting scheduled for May 30.

There was more than 1,000 participants from all over the world to join this wonderful event. The 17 members of the FIS Council elected five World Championships sites for the 2013 season on May 29 — nordic, freestyle, snowboard, ski flying and the alpine event. The FIS awarded the 2013 Nordic skiing world championships to Val di Fiemme in Italy, the freestyle world championships to Voss, Norway and the snowboard world championships to Stoneham in Quebec. The Austrian resort of Schladming will host the world Alpine skiing championships in 2013.

Furthermore, the FIS Congress also discussed FIS's plans for a multi-year international campaign entitled “Bring Children to Snow” designed to generate passion for snow activities among the younger generations. The marketing and activity campaign will be focused on enabling and enhancing the family experience in the snow and with snow activities, together with partners from various sectors including but not limited to the sports movement, ski industry, ski tourism, tourism associations, non-governmental and governmental organizations.
